The Light House Cultural Center

Dear EAA Friends and Partners,

This week The Light House Cultural Center at EAA Dallas celebrated 3 years since its inception! We thank everyone who has helped and supported us during these last 3 exciting years!

It started with a vision of restoring an abandoned property and turning it into a venue that can be utilized as an after-school center for the arts. But that vision took shape, only after dozens of volunteers gave of their time, energy and effort to make it what it is today.

As of September 2007, The Light House has been the source of spreading light in our community and around the world.

We have been involved in routine neighborhoods clean-ups, planting flower, gardens and trees.

Through our volunteer teacher program we've given:

-young poets a platform to exercise their poetry.
-helped music lovers take music lessons at a minimal or no cost.
-turned art lovers into artist.
-and had photography and art exhibits to raise money for young artists in developing countries.

As a result we have beautiful art from youth in Romania, Colombia and Ukraine, which can be used to further our vision.

Some of our initial volunteer have taken the inspiration acquired at The Light House and have replicated our vision in countries like Spain, Argentina and Sweden. We hope to continue inspiring young minds and keeping them off the streets.  Education, through the arts, is our goal and as long as we have a venue, we will continue to advance this positive message of 'Redeeming the Arts."

Currently we are working with Roma Provisions (www.romaboots.org) to provide a more practical solution to street children who live in cold and wet climates. 5,000 children will receive, not only a pair of rain boots this winter, but also a box of crayons and a coloring book.

We at The Light House have always believed in the power of imagination. By helping provide crayons and coloring books, we hope that these street children will be motivated to pursue an education or a trade, which will help them break out of their cycle of poverty. That way, they can contribute something significant to society, rather than being a nuisance to society.

We thank you all for joining us these past 3 years. Please continue to show us your support as we strive to make this world a better place.

Truly,

Samuel Bistrian
